Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
